The Trapp Family Lodge (802-253-5719; 800-826-7000, www.trappfamily.com) organized America’s first commercial XC ski center in 1968 and the lodge is one of the few in the XC ski world that has celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Trapp Family Lodge has a 110 km trail network with 60 km of groomed and machine-tracked trails that connect to another 100 km in the Stowe area. Most trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing. Trapp’s also has 100 km of backcountry trails. The fee is $26 a day for adults during the week and $29 on weekend days, $15 for teens aged 12-18; $10 for children aged 6-11, $21 weekdays for seniors aged 65+. All the prices are more on the weekends and holidays, and VT tax is not included in the price.

XC ski and snowshoe equipment rentals: $30 for adults during the week and $35 on weekends or holidays and $20 for youth weekday and $25 on weekends or holidays; $25 for snowshoes and $30 on weekends or holidays; $50 for a performance package on weekends or holidays. backcountry is $50 weekdays and $60 on weekends. Instruction is available in a group 1-hour lesson for $45 on weekends or holidays, Private lesson for $95 for the first person on weekends and $50 for each additional person. Complete retail store with clothing, equipment and accessories.

Of course, the Von Trapp Family was made famous in the movie The Sound of Music and the lodge extends the legend to share with all who visit.

Trapp Family Lodge is 38 miles from Burlington, VT. It has more than 90 rooms in the lodge and many more guest chalets and villas that are ski-in, ski-out. There is an indoor swimming pool and rec center, programs for the kids and a spa or massage for adults. Enroll the kids in the Mountain Kids Club to be educated and inspired to learn to xc ski but also entertained with playtime, craft time and movies.

Ski up to the Slayton Pasture Cabin nestled in the woods about 3 miles (with a portion uphill) to a destination to relax or enjoy soup, sandwiches, hot coco, and homemade cookies served fireside. Dining in the Trapp Family Lodge includes the European-style Dining Room for breakfast and dinner and lighter fare with music in the Lounge. The Bierhall is a spacious, authentic Bierhall serving lunch and dinner with a large brewery attached to it. Also on the property is the Austrian Tea & Tap Room serves breakfast and lunch options.

The town of Stowe, VT is quintessential New England with its white steepled church and main street lined with stores. For dining and shopping, Stowe has a full range of selection from down home breakfast nooks and retail shops to upscale restaurants and furriers. And there are a number of other places to XC ski (Stowe, Edson Hill, Top Notch, etc.) or alpine ski (Stowe and Sugarbush) in the immediate vicinity.

It has been announced that The Villas at Trapp Family Lodge has an affiliation with the World's Finest Resorts (WFR) collection of properties. The WFR properties include resorts such as Villa La Estancia in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Poets Cove Seaside Resort in the Vancouver Islands, The Hemingways in Sun Valley and Humber Valley Resort in Newfoundland, Canada. There is an open exchange availability for the resorts to WFR members. The Villas, which feature pitched gable cedar roofs, second floor balconies and a European sophistication are offered on a 1/12th share ownership basis, which includes 4 weeks per year at the elegant residences.
