Cross Country Ski Headquarters ( 800-832-2663; www.crosscountryski.com) is a leading XC ski outfitter and ski area in Michigan since 1974 and a premier destination for XC skiing in Midwest. The Higgins Lake location is in the heart of Michigan, with 19 km of trails on site meticulously groomed for classic and skate skiing for skiers of all abilities and there are also miles of trails all around the region. XC Ski HQ is known for its friendly and experienced staff.
A day trail pass is $9 for adults and $5 for kids aged 16 and under. There are 2 km of lighted trails and the Stone Turtle Cafe food service on the premises at the Stone Turtle Day Lodge. The lighted trail section leads to Trapper's Cabin, a favorite stopping place. The extensive retail ski shop has one of the broadest selections of XC ski equipment, clothing, packages, and expertise. The Try Before You Buy policy offer free demos for XC ski products, fat bikes, snowshoes when available to demo. Season pass for a family is $65 and $38 for an individual.
XC ski and snowshoe equipment are available to rent and you get the trail pass included in the price of the rental equipment. A classic XC ski package is $16 for 2 hours, $20 for 4 hours and $25 for the day. Junior packages for kids under 100 lbs. are $13 for 2 hours, $17 for 4 hours, and $20 for the day. Skate skis are $19 for 2 hours, $24 for 4 hours, and $30 for the day. Snowshoes are $14 for 2 hours, $18 for 4 hours and $22 for the day. Pulks are available to rent so you can bring the little ones, too.

XC ski school has 4 certified XC ski instructors offering classic and skate ski lessons. 1-hour private lessons at $50 for one person, $15 for each additional person. There are free beginner group lessons on Saturdays and skate skiing lessons are available, too.
Cross Country Ski Headquarters schedules many programs for luncheon specials and music during the winter so check the website for details. This is also the home of Ski Bones, a popular accessory manufactured that are used as ski ties. While Cross Country Ski Headquarters has so much right on the site, there is also more nearby including Hanson Hills, which is only 20 minutes away and has 35 km of groomed rolling trails. If ungroomed natural beauty is preferred, the nearby Mason Tract along the famous AuSable River is always sure to please the eyes.
