The snowshoe and XC ski network of trails at Burke Mountain Resort are at Dashney Nordic Center (802-626-1466; www.SkiBurke.com) including 11-15 km on logging lanes, forgotten country roads, and rolling Vermont farmland. The area is operated in a partnership with the Northwoods Stewardship Center.
The Dashney Nordic Center is near the base of Burke Mountain Resort (the alpine ski area) with trails groomed for classic and skate skiing through woods and over fields. Loops and terrain is varied and available for skiers of all levels. There is a designated dog-friendly loop at the center. This is also the training area for the Burke Mountain Academy Nordic ski team.
The Center is open seven days a week 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Trail grooming is done about four times weekly conditions permitting. A trail pass for skiers or snowshoers is $15 per day; half day after 2:00 PM is $10 per day and a family can ski all year long for $125 per season. Youth rates are discounted for trail pass and rentals.
Rental equipment available for XC skiing is $30 (half day after 2 PM is $20) or snowshoeing $15 (half day after 2:00 PM is $10). Rentals discounted for youth. The center has maps and information, trail passes and merchandise available, rental equipment for XC skiing and snowshoeing, restroom, and hot cocoa.
NorthWoods Stewardship Center is a non-profit conservation organization located 30 minutes northeast of Burke Mountain Resort in East Charleston, Vermont. For 25 years, they have reached their mission to connect people and place, through science, education and action. For the 2016/17 winter season, NorthWoods and Burke have teamed up, and the NorthWoods staff is excited to add their experience and passion for environmental education and conservation to the Burke offerings.
