Tahoe Donner Cross Country (530-587-9484; www.tahoedonner.com/cross-country) is a premier facility located 10 minutes from downtown Truckee, CA. Tahoe Donner prides itself on its variety of terrain for all abilities, quality grooming, well-equipped rental shop, friendly staff and talented team of professional ski instructors. The 100 km of world-class XC ski terrain feature stunning views of the Sierra Nevada region.
Tahoe Donner is the only XC ski resort in the region with a dedicated snowmaking system to guarantee prime early-season conditions. Trails are groomed daily for diagonal striding and skate skiing. There are more than 2,500 acres of terrain on three track systems with four warming huts.
The Alder Creek Adventure Center serves as the main lodge for the Cross Country Center with a rental shop equipped with a high-end demo fleet and basic XC ski equipment, a wax room and locker room. The Alder Creek Cafe located inside serves delicious and convenient grab-and-go treats, healthy dining options, and a refreshing beer and wine selection.
Tahoe Donner prides itself in the quality of its PSIA Certified ski school and this year, private skate and stride lessons are offered seven days a week and group lessons are offered on most weekends and holidays. Top end recreational equipment is available to rent for striding, skating, and snowshoeing. The rental shop also offers high performance demo gear, and Chariot sleds to bring the little kids along. Advance online purchase of day trail passes, rental equipment and lessons is recommended for this popular resort, especially on weekends and holidays to guarantee your ski day.
When skiing midweek at Tahoe Donner, you will often see school classes out enjoying skiing, as their PE class, and after-school kids programs are having tons of fund while learning ski skills.
Truckee is only 45 minutes from Reno International Airport, 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe, and 3.5 hours from San Francisco. Locals and visitors enjoy being surrounded by natural beauty, western history, great restaurants, and well known alpine ski resorts such as Palisades at Tahoe (previously known as Squaw Valley) , Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, and Northstar. Tahoe Donner is a homeowners association which also offers visitors a beginner-friendly alpine ski area, snowplay and tubing area, restaurants, and vacation rentals.
Directions: Take Interstate 80 from the east or west to the Donner State Park exit, drive a 1/2 mile and turn north on Northwoods Blvd at the traffic light and follow Tahoe Donner signs for 5 miles, to turn right on Fjord and left on Alder Creek. The Alder Creek Adventure Center is at 11257 Alder Creek Road.
